Great River Vineyard/Nursery proudly presents Grape Growing 201 on a four disc set. This was filmed February 25, 2006 at the Villa Maria Retreat Center in Old Frontenac, Minnesota.
Great River Vineyard/Nursery has been presenting cold climate grape growing educational material, seminars and hands-on clinics for more than 12 years. We have been growing grapes in Minnesota for over 30 years and thoroughly enjoy sharing information gathered during this time. Our “Grape Growing 101” video has been available since 2003 and will be filmed again on January 13, 2007 with all of the updated information concerning cold climate grape growing, including an update on all of the new varieties now available for the northern grower.

John Marshall

John is a charter member of the Minnesota Grape Growers Association (MGGA), past president of that group and one of only five recipients of the MGGA’s Elmer Swenson Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been growing grapes since 1975 with his wife Barb, and has been growing commercially, Great River Vineyard/Nursery, since the mid-80s. His talks on nutritional deficiency identification and general fertilization programs will teach growers lessons it took him years to learn. In addition, the trellising, training and canopy management talks have been learned both via expert advice and long experience.

Tom Martell
Martell Vineyards                Somerset, Wisconsin
Tom is president of the Minnesota Grape Growers Association and with his wife, Deb, operates Martell Vineyards, Somerset, Wisconsin. He began in the late 90’s with the same uncertainties many new growers have about who will buy, what are the prices, varieties, how to harvest, deliveries and so on. His experiences at Martell Vineyards have demonstrated that there is an active market for grapes in the north that new growers can access. His marketing knowledge and skills are of great value to the northern grape grower.

Chapman is Executive V. P. with the Agro-K Corporation of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a worldwide pioneer in the use of foliar fertilizers on grapes and many other crops. He is a graduate of Cobly College in Maine. His years of experience in foliar fertilization is a huge resource. Chapman speaks on how to use foliar fertilizers to get young vines off to a good start and how to correct deficiencies and feeding crops in the mature vineyard. Experienced growers have found that foliar nutrition is an important tool in keeping vines healthy and bringing to harvest high quality fruit. Chapman’s expert understanding and knowledgeable advice is of enormous value to both novice and experienced growers.
